Plus, I think it may do a better job rescuing pictures taken with mediocre equipment, than it improves sharp pictures taken with good lenses. Working on a separate layer, and blending with the original helps that problem, though. The difference between 'wow, that looks out, they shouldnt have included that', and no one noticing it. Its not a miracle worker but it can do a good job depending on the situation. Plus it is easy to overdo the effect, and end up with noticeable artifacts. I use Topaz quite a bit (especially now when a lot of footage is home recorded for talking heads in corporate). And that is after the update to increase the speed.
